Customer Sales Assistant
Friendly, professional and efficient, you’ll help people to start their journey with us in the best possible way. In fact, you might often be the first person our customers talk to when they arrive at one of our stations. You’ll sell our full range of tickets/passes accurately and impartially, offering the latest information and prices. So it’s important that you’re a great listener who understands the needs of each and every customer.
In addition to serving customers face to face, you’ll make sure ticket machines and IT equipment are maintained too. You’ll also help to increase sales by offering enhanced products and services to our customers. Not least, we’ll expect you to keep on top of important sales information, ensuring that the right documents are dispatched to the right departments.

Anita says... The best thing about my job is the customers. We get a variety of customers, first class customers, standard class customers. Working as a team also is a good thing so all the staff in the office are actually really friendly so if you ever get stuck on anything they do help you out and also you’ve got the supervisors and the managers to turn to if anything goes wrong and as soon as I started the staff have always been there, they’ve made me very, very confident in the job, I’ve had really, really good training for First Great Western. They spent a lot of time making sure I knew what I was doing before they ever left me by myself to be working so they are very, very there for you.
The working atmosphere is absolutely great. Everyone’s really, really friendly. They are there for each other, it’s like a whole big family really. It’s a nice environment, you’re seeing different people every day but the company as a whole is a good company and they do look after their staff and they do all treat everyone fairly which is a really good thing.
The people I work with in my workplace at Swindon, are very, very committed to their job. Everyone helps each other out. You’re not on your own so at the end of the day don’t ever get scared that you can’t speak to anyone if you’ve got a problem. If you’re reliable they’ll be reliable and if you’re very, very committed and motivated with the job you’re doing then, they will always be there for you.
What makes me proud is seeing customers happy when they come to my window and leave my window. It makes me proud when I leave that window and finalise my shift that a customer has actually left and is happy with the service.
