The Application Process
First steps
So you’ve looked around the site and have found something you’re interested in, why not have a look at our current vacancies both in FGW and other First businesses in the UK.
You’ll be taken to the First Group careers page and prompted to apply for UK Jobs. We will ask you to set up an account using your email address – this will allow us to contact you about your application. This will also allow you to log in and out of the form so you can take a break during the application. Your application will not be submitted to us until you click the ‘submit’ button.
We will look at your application on the basis of the information you give us. You may find the following tips useful when applying:
- Make sure you review the role profile before completing you apply
- List all relevant qualifications and achievements.
- Keep a clear picture in your mind of the job you are applying for, and the skills you have that most closely match the requirements of the role profile – and make sure you provide specific examples if you can.
- Take some time to think about your achievements – all experience is valuable. Include volunteer activities, jobs, projects, assignments, travel and team activities.
What happens next?
Once you submit your application you will receive an acknowledgement email from us. Once we have reviewed your application we will contact you again by email to outline what the next steps are.
For some roles, we’ll also ask you to attend an assessment centre. Here, we’ll use a variety of methods to determine whether you have the skills and capabilities needed to succeed in the role.
The format of your assessment will depend upon the job you have applied for, but may consist of a mixture of classroom-based tests, group exercises, presentations or interviews at one or more stages. When you are invited to attend an assessment centre we will let you know beforehand what to expect and how to prepare for the day.
When will you hear?
We will let you know the outcome of your assessment and interview within one week.
