Engineering
Over 1,000 employees work as part of our Engineering team. They maintain and clean our fleet of over 800 vehicles at our 7 maintenance deports in West London, Reading, Bristol, Swansea, Exeter, Plymouth and Penzance (as well as servicing a location at Oxford). We also have a small team of engineers based in our Swindon headquarters.
Our objective is to support First Great Western’s “Putting Customers First” vision by consistently delivering safe, reliable and well-presented trains in service day in, day out.
There are a huge variety of roles within the engineering team. Our fleet of diesel trains ranges from High Speed Trains operating at up to 125mph through to the Diesel Multiple Unit fleets providing local services in the London and Thames Valley area, and regional services in the South West of England.
As well as requiring skilled technicians to undertake routine maintenance, fault diagnosis and repair we also require cleaners to ensure that trains are presented to required standards. Other specialist engineering and support roles may also arise from time to time.
By the very nature of our business, much of our train maintenance and cleaning takes place on nights and we work 24 hours per day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
