LIZ
Customer Host
You’ll work aboard our trains in both First and Standard class; delivering the highest standards of service and safety to the customer throughout their journey. As a host, you might cover any of four roles: working at the buffet, offering a First Class trolley service, providing an at-seat restaurant service or performing a variety of tasks as a support host.
If you’re to fit into the team, you’ll need a commitment to safety, great communication skills and a real understanding of the needs of your customers and your colleagues. You’ll be fully trained in a variety of safety and emergency procedures, and briefed on important topics including Food Safety and Hygiene. As a result, it’s important that you’re a keen learner with a flexible approach. In addition, you must work shifts, including weekends and bank holidays. You’ll also need to be at least 18 due to the Safety Critical work involved.

Liz says... As a Customer Host I am probably one of the first contacts the customers have of us as a company.
It’s important to have a customer host on board to ensure customers have that facility of a tea or a sandwich if required, first class at seat service and hopefully with the service they do get, they remember and they use the trains again.
I think you have to have a good sense of humour, be able to smile, be smart, pleasant and take pride in what you do.
I like helping people and I like talking to people and I like to give them the best I can even if it’s nothing to do with the buffet. If they ask a question I’m there, like with the timetables or if they ask for assistance I try and sort it out with the train manager, it’s just, I just feel part of the team.
I think myself, as a customer host, I like the idea of working on my own initiative. However I know if there’s any problem there is somebody there that I can ask advice of.
I also try to give my customers the best so I try to go that one step further and it’s great when they turn around and they’re grateful because you can go home and think, well I’ve had a good day today, it’s been great.
