Training

It’s no secret that we’re committed to training and developing you. You may not realise just how comprehensive our training is though – and just how keen we are to strengthen your skills throughout your career.

Induction Programme. Once you join First Great Western, you’ll benefit from a full and engaging Induction programme. You’ll be welcomed into the company and learn about other First Operations in the UK and beyond.  This is to ensure you feel confident and able to deliver exceptional service standards to our customers.

Ongoing Learning. With the support of your Manager, your career aspirations with First Great Western will be supported by comprehensive learning and development. We’ll give you the opportunity to develop and master specific skills that will help you achieve your future goals.

Customer Service NVQs. All our front line colleagues are offered the opportunity to study for an NVQ in Customer Service at either Level 2 or 3. We’ve recently introduced an NVQ for Supervisors and we’re currently identifying new NVQs for you to achieve too.

Learn Direct. We’ve partnered up with the Learn Direct organisation to offer over 60 online modular learning programmes. These take between 2 and 4 hours to complete, and can be completed from any internet accessed computer. It’s good to know there are also dedicated Learn Direct computers in five centres across our network.

Professional Development. If you’d like to study towards a qualification that will be relevant and useful to your role, we’re more than open to the idea. Subject to acceptance, you’ll receive financial support and time off to attend study groups and to take exams.
